Boston Skate Club Redevelopment

For the former site of the Skating Club of Boston, the client wanted to provide much needed housing, hospitality accommodations for those visiting the city, and a vibrant public space for the community to gather. The project hopes to act as a gateway, creating an active, pedestrian-friendly connection from Lower Allston to the Charles River.

RODE was hired as Project Architect to strategize and implement the design of a new 535-unit rental and 120-unit condominium complex, and 255-key hotel. Drawing inspiration from the iconic modernist towers that dot the Charles River, the project proposes its own residential tower, flanked by buildings on either side that scale down to meet the growing development of Western Ave.

The public plaza, lined with retail space at the ground floor, creates a lively and welcoming open space for the site's residents and the community. This gives the opportunity to host farmer's markets, concerts, and other community-driven activities. The project includes the construction of a new, universally-accessible ramp and stairs to the existing Telford Street pedestrian bridge, a crucial part of the project that we have partnered up with DCR to develop. This bridge allows a safe, above-ground crossing to the Charles River and its many public amenities.
