Description

As the new headquarters for a startup incubator based in the Seaport, this adaptive reuse project was challenged with translating the original aesthetics and identity of the client's Seaport offices into an existing industrial building in Dorchester. With the idea of "shipping" the seaport identity into the existing structure, the addition is conceptualized as an industrial container that floats above the existing building, creating a distinct contrast between the old and the new. The volume of the container is then carved and reshaped to create a series of outdoor rooftop spaces and amphitheater style seating that creates communal areas for presentations, events and causal collaboration.
